Overview of the CUUC RE Program

The Religious Education (RE) program is one of the foundations of our congregation. The Children's RE Program in particular was cited by a majority of our congregants as one of the main reasons they first attended CUC and it continues to be highly valued by the congregation.

There are three major components to CUC's RE program: Sunday School for Nursery to Grade 9, Youth Group for Grades 10 through 12, and Adult Religious Education.

The Children's Religious Education Program is overseen by a full-time Director of Religious Education (DRE).

Our DRE for 4 years (2014-2018) has been Perry Montrose. Perry brought a creative and steady hand to our program, helped us develop some effective approaches, and leaves our program on very solid ground. In 2018, Perry moved on to take another DRE position, but continued with us as quarter-time RE consultant, working with RE Coordinator Michele Rinaldi as we prepared for the transition to a new DRE to start in Fall 2019.

The Religious Education Council (REC), composed of a Chair, eight pledging members or friends of CUC, and a youth representative, works with the DRE to design and implement the RE program. The Minister, and Youth Advisor (if any) are ex-officio to the Council. The Council's responsibilities include developing, supporting and sustaining quality programming of religious education for our children from the nursery through high school.
